Long's mother left the family and re-married, leaving Long and his brother with their father. The father has a disease that keeps him from working. The family moved in with Long's grandfather, but he is paralyzed. The situation was too difficult for Long to continue living at home. When Promise House opened in 2010, Long joined the orphanage.

Long is very happy to be in his new home. He is constantly running and playing, a broad smile on his face.
