In 2009, Typhoon Ketsana hit central Vietnam; many people lost their lives. Y's father lost his life in the storm, leaving behind a sick wife and 4 children. Y's mom, too ill to work and care for four children, was forced to seek a better option for her children. Y joined Promise House in February.

Y is one of the oldest children in Promise House. She is a big sister to the others, giving them direction and comforting them when they cry. Y is very intelligent and a hard worker--the top of her class at school. Y is responsible but she is still very much a child. She is playful, happy, and quick to smile and laugh.
